How do people keep their eyes open underwater?

I was watching britains next top model and the models had to take part in an underwater themed couture shoot. It looked so hard and I was wondering how they all could keep their eyes open underwater for the photos? Can anyone else do this? Is there a technique for it because it it was me I'd die!
